Today, we have breakfast at 7am- 8am. Then, we headed up to collect our luggage, check out of the hotel, and then, proceed to the soap factory.
At the soap factory, We learn how detergent, soap and other cleaning materials are made.
After visiting the soap factory, we proceed to the school exchange programme. At the school, it may not be as big as our school, but it was very spacious. All together, there were 10 classes. This consist of 3 grade 3 classes, 3 grade 2 classes, and 4 grade 1 classes. The programme was no so bad. The Japanese were very friendly and they were also interested to know more about Singapore. I believe that majority of us enjoyed the exchange programme. Not to forget about lunch,we had lunch in the school and it was not so bad.
Next we went to RoboSqaure. The robot in the robosqaure are compatible to the the dogs on the street. We really admire them.
After the visiting robot sqaure, we went to Aeon Shopping Mall. Aeon Shopping Mall, was the best of all events of day ..... I think. Everyone was shopping for their own staff and not to mention that the mall is really huge ! (something similar to vivo city) There were many shops there, and the supermarket there was the biggest shop among all. Everyone was happy and satisfied with the shopping trip. After that, we met up and we had an early dinner at the mall too. It was then we found out that Jordan, Yoong Jin, Yeap Zhong, Gregory, Jun Jia, Huai De brought some fancty sunglasses and pretend to act being mafias. Dinner was great ! Everyone enjoyed the food and we then headed back to the hotel.

day 7 - jordan

jordan writing. lols. woke up at 6.30 japan time. bath and ate breakfast and we head to
soap factory. i had fun at soap factory. knowing how soap is made.:D

after which, we head to a junior high school. cool man !
in the soap factory, we learnt how the soap in japan in made. and alot different kinds
of stuff tht are related to soap, namely detergent, shampoo etc.
then, we head to a junior high school in japan. i was shock to know tht there's only 8 classes in
tht school. we gone in to 2 classes, one sec 3 class and 1 sec 2 class. the way of them teaching in
japan and singapore is just like 2 different world. serious. example : before go in sch, students are
to remove shoe and wear the sch shoe to go in, all the bags they are carrying to sch are all the same !
the number of student in a class is half of the students per class in singapore. one period of theirs is 50 minutes!! so long luh. at the same time, i also leant tht they have variety of CCAs. mostly sports.
after tht, we had lunch with the japanese students. of course the boys are looking for pretty girls and the girls are looking for handsome boys luh. LOL. we did made a few friends while we having lunch. i can see tht most of the students in the school are hardworking. after 1 hour with the japanese students, we are going off, in the 1 hour, most of us are unwillingly to part with them. so, after the school exchange program, we went to robo square. is more like a shopping mall to me luh. but the robots sold there are very high tech. i really admire the people who did these kind of high tech robots.
after tht, we head to the SHOPPING MALL !!! everyone look forward
to this place. =D i made the shopping mall word so big cos, the shopping mall is seriously super big !!!!
i almost lost my way in tht mall. i confirm singapore do not have a shopping mall
as big as the one we went to in japan,=D not only the mall is big, the price over there also very the big uh ! we shop for 2 hours. not only the time is not enough for me to shop, i also not enough money to buy things luh ! but, we left too much money, so we decided to spam our money on stuff tht we no need. =D after which, we had our dinner at one of the restaurants in the mall. all the food in japan to me is superb.=D the boys had their sunglasses while having dinner. xD
after which, we went to check in the hotel. i think is chisun hotel.=D
as usual, after we put our luggage etc, we went down for debriefing. we also revealed our angel and mortal thingy tht night, fun ! =D then, some of the students went to talk a small walk with the teachers nearby the hotel as this is our last night, D= we enjoyed the walk. =D
then, we went back and had free time. i went around the hotel and ask for autographs from everyone. =D
everyone is only the gdlss people. seriously, i have to say this, this hotel, in the 6 nights we had, this is the worst. all of us are separated, the room is super squeezy, toilet also. but nvm. =D
but tht night, all the boys really had an unforgettable night which i shan't expose. =D
so thts all people, ME LOVE JAPAN ! =D
-JUNJIA

Day 6 II

Due to limited internet access, photos will only be updated on a later date.

Updates on Day 6

````````````````````````````````````````````````````KOKOKOKOKONICHIWAAAAAA! WOW a car takes 16 hours to assemble 2 seconds to destroy. WOW AH! Assembling it requires many complicated steps, which would probably take one night to type it all out + we only have 30 mins of internet time man ! The visit to the Nissan factory really was an eye-opener!
Our stomachs started to growl so we went to lunch BARBEQUE-BUFFET STYLE MAN ! eat until we are bloated. There is a wide variety of food during lunch.
And then off we went to the Natural Science Museum which was another eye-opener. We saw bones , bones and more bones ! We saw a movie about volcanic eruption very very VERY long ago. After museum , we went to a eco-city where it shows the unity of a city where the city were very polluted once as it was a industrial place and they wanted a clean city so the citizens and the governments sat down together to discuss. They come out projects to save the city and one of it were reduce reuse recycle. They also uses wind turbine to generate electricity. They also gives us a talk where K.O a lot of people even our Ipman.
After the eco-city , we went to a HUGE castle which is also MINE. We learned how to drink a tea and sit traditionally. We have to kneel down for about 15 mins but everyone K.O at 5 min and started fidgeting. We were taken for a tour at the castle garden where the lord would stand and enjoy the view of his castle to remind himself of his success. Following we went to TEMPURA DINNER MAN! So niceeee. Today, we had to 'make' our lunch personally(which was soba). We had a lot of fun making the soba as it is our first time making soba and it is indeed a good experience!
After lunch, we went to Shirakawa Riverhead, and got to drink the water from the river. The water tasted very refreshing and we had a good time there! After that, we went to a local village to stay with the villagers. We also had the chance to see fireflies at night. Though it was raining, the scenery was simply breath-taking! :)
As we alight from the bus to the restaurant, one of us slipped from the steps of the bus.
And she hurt her backbone ): She was sent to the local hospital for a checkup.
We were very worried for her & it dampened our spirits :(
So the rest of us had to learn the process of making soba,
which lightened the atmosphere by a little as all of us were quite worried for our dear friend.
Our 2 lovely teacherrrrrrrrrrrrs in the picture, ate the noodles we made.
& when we were making the noodles, they had so much comments! We were very excited as this is the first time we are making this type of food. We felt very confident of our own culinery skills.
However, when we came out with the final product, the taste was a bit weird. But we were still proud of ourselves nevertheless.
After lunch, we went to Onishii Bozu Jigoku(Monk's Hell) where we can see boiling mud pools which is grey in colour. There were also hot springs that were green and red in colour. The green colour is due to iron(II) and the red is due to iron(III).
We also went to the Umi Jigoko(Sea Hell),which is a pond of hot, blue water. Due to its temperature, steam is constantly being emitted to the atmosphere. It was so foggy that we could hardly see sometimes.
We also enjoyed ourselves soaking our feet in the hot spring. Homestay with our friendly Japanese Friends
Hmmm.... Today We are not staying in castle, no palace, no hotel, no hostel, no inn, no no no .... Greendale students are stepping out of their comfort zone and are all doing homestay with local japanese families. Many were worried in the beginning, but the hospitality that our japanese hosts had shown us quickly melted the invisible ice between us.
All of us are out there trying to understand their language, their way of life and basically their culture.
Although we are speaking different languages, communication was made easy by Yahoo translator... Thank God for that or else..... =)
Okie... So what are we doing in the local fmailies, Some of the students were discussing what they have made for their own dinner and I saw some of the girls wearing Kimono. I must say that they really enjoyed themselves , The guys were seen talking excitedly about the world cup match that they are about to watch with their japanese host. World cup fever is also on in Japan. I wonder whether the kopitiams in Singapore are filled with many football fans now!
And Yes, something really memorable for all of us! We were driven into the deep forest to catch a glimpse of ' a sea of fireflies' around us. All of us were awed by the breathtaking sight of fireflies flying around us! Envy us heh heh ?....
The students are not here for the update and there will be more to come when we settle in a hotel tomorrow. As for now, Oyasumi Nasai!
P/S And with our hospitable, generous, kind and neighbourly newfound Japanese friends, who says there's no comfort in the homestay? All of us are enjoying every moments now heh!
<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://gdlssloves-japan.blogspot.com/2010/06/day-3-homestay-with-our-friendly.html' title='Day 3! Everyone was super tired because it felt like we didn't have sufficient sleep. It was the standard hotel breakfast with bread, cereal, etc...
We took a long bus ride to Shimabara to visit the Disaster Memorial Hall(Gamadas Dome.) It was a museum that was dedicated to Mount Unzen-Fugen(sounds cool right?) and gave information about the formation and eruptions of it. We got to experience the volcanic eruption with some re-enactment. We entered a theatre that displayed graphics of the volcanic eruption. We had to stand and the ground moved as if we were experiencing the eruption. Heat was emitted as well.
We took a ferry ride to Kumamoto. There a couple of our students were mistaken for locals. And old man in a suit came up to them and started jabbering away in JAPANESE. The boys were very amused and stumped at the same time so all they did was nod. The man kept talking for a long time. Yeap Zhong labelled him a "spammer". ^^V
After a very short tour, we moved on to our next destination which was the Kumamoto Castle. It is a castle that has been well-kept and it was re-built in 1960 but several wooden buildings remain the same. There were dudes in samurai get-ups however, we were too shy to take pictures with them. Only our very spontaneous teachers, MR JACKY TAN and MR KELVIN CHAN took a picture beside the samurai. <insert and="" chan and="" mr="" of="" picture="" samurai.="" tan="">We took off our shoes and took a tour in the exhibition of the castle.
Lunch ! We had Shabu-Shabu , the portion was too large .
We had an 1 1/2 hour ride up to Mount Aso.We trekked up 1.5 km of the whole journey , on our way we saw different types of land formations. We came across todifferent types of mountain : the young and the old mountain . The young mountain was a dome shape while the old mountain was in a zig-zag shape.
It was due to the stage of erosion process. We travelled up to the crater of the volcano.We experienced the cooling weather due to the high alititude which led to low pressure. We saw the iron compound II which is the green substance that produce sulfur oxide gas. That is the active volcano. Beside it is the dominant volcano which erupted 15 years ago.
We travelled down to Aso-no-tsukasa Villa Park hotel whereby we had our hot spring experience. We had our dinner in the banquet dinner room. The muslims had seafood and scallops included. We had beef and pork. It was DELICIOUS to the max.
Next, is HOT SPRING!!! OMG! >< It is a very very embarass experience, really very!! After dinner, we had some rest and prepared everything we need for the hot spring. Then everyone went to different room - girls to girls room/ boys to boys room. We , the girls, were deciding who should bath first and who are not going to the hot spring, and etc. 6 girls decided to go, and yup, though it is super duper embarassed but i think that it is all worth it. The degree of the water is somehow 30 plus degree? but it is warm to me and so i enjoy taking it, hahas! This is my second time taking a hot spring bath, but today hot spring is really embarassing....
Please look forward to our next post! :D
PS:
chingping: mummy&daddy, imissyou!!:D i think i am able to call home using my friends' handphone because theirs' is free of charge!! hahas. NIGHT! :D
yuqing: Erm hehe, Dear parents of mine, I lost my HOT PINK pants at the previous hotel. Erm sorry.
P.S. Space & Science Museum.There's a wide variety of scientific games and puzzles, participants can gain more knowledge and have fun at the same time. One of the games which we visited had been Moon Walk, which enables participant to experience how it's like to be 'walking on the moon'. It actually uses the concept of bungee jumping. After visiting several other exhibitions, we headed for lunch. It was a buffet-style Japanese meal. We had to take a tray and select the dishes that we wanted to try. However, we were allowed to take as much as we wanted. Hence, a few of us couldn't finish our food which was a waste. But all in all,it was still a good experience.
After lunch, we headed for the Peace Park. There were many sculptures,each of them symbolizing something important,such as peace & harmony. The sculptures were built all over the world. From Rome to Germany. They were beautifully sculpted. The main attraction of the park was a blue statue of a man sitting with one finger pointing to the sky & the other hand pointing to the other direction(not down,either left of right ^^) It was very huge.The finger pointing to the sky represents the threats of it.Which mostly concerns the atomic bomb that hit Nagasaki. & his other hand representing peace.He sits like a buddha representing meditation.He is so called 'the gaurdian'. We took many beautiful pictures & the guide explains each meaning of every sculpture.
After that,we headed for the Nagasaki atomic bomb memorial museum. There were alot of pictures that shows the aftereffects of the bombing. The destruction caused was horrible. Metal pieces were melted,glass & there were many pictures of people & how they were affected by it. Some people were burnt instantly by the blast & some died from radiation.we watched videos & people's stories.
After that,we went to the hotel. It was Chisun Grand Hotel. At first, a survivor of the Nagasaki bombings told us his experiences. He told how he hid himself when the blast occured. He covered his mouth,ears and nose using his only two hands crouched under the table. Three fingers for the eyes,the thumbs for his ears and his little fingers to cover his nose holes. When the blast was over,blood dripped from his arms & his back due to the glass pieces. There were dead bodies everywhere. His aunt died from radiation from trying to find his son. He was very sorry for all the happenings & till now,he is still in shock.
After that, we had dinner.It was nice.We had tempura.woohoo.
We got back to the hotel,lethargic.
